Fraud cases doubled during UK lockdown

2021-08-06

The number of fraud cases in the United Kingdom has surged this year because the new crown epidemic has created perfect conditions for criminals to use the blockade to conduct fraudulent activities.

A report released by KPMG UK Ltd. on Wednesday showed that in the first six months of this year, allegations of fraud in British courts had doubled.

However, despite the surge in the number of cases, the amount involved dropped by 70% to 139 million pounds (approximately US$193 million), which is only a fraction of the 895 million pounds in the first half of 2018.

KPMG UK investigation director Roy Waligora (Roy Waligora) said that the decline in case value may be due to the lack of compelling trials and the lengthy court delays faced by more complex cases.

In the first half of this year, phishing, SMS fraud and other small-scale crimes against the British public increased by 285%. There has also been an increase in fraud cases against the government-including the first fraud case using unpaid leave.
